The Moderating Effects of the Supervisory Relationship between Novice Child Counselors¡¯ Professional Identity and Psychological Burnout

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of the supervisory relationship between novice child counselors¡¯ professional identity and psychological burnout. The subjects of this study comprised 139 novice child counselors working at child counseling centers in Korea. The results of this study were as follows. First, among the supervisory relationship and novice child counselor's professional identity showed a negative correlation with psychological burnout. Second, all sub factors of the supervision relationship showed a significant moderating effect between novice child counselor's professional identity and psychological burnout. This study verified the fact that the supervisory relationship, can be an important factor that promotes professional identity on psychological burnout. Specifically, it is suggested that professional and systematically structured supervision can be effective along with the emotional aspects of the supervisory relationship to alleviate the psychological burnout of novice child counselors.
